To realize Oneself as Brahma is the goal; but to know the soul as distinct from the body is to know the truth and be free from ignorance. ...Know then, this body, this wealth, this kith and kin are not real. Starting to wonder if Zukav got his information from the Yoga Vasistha? So many similarities. The Vasistha speaks to the limitations of the five senses and the limitations of the self/body we identify as so often. It speaks of the importance of making the distinction between our body personality ( though it does not use that term) and our soul...and how we need to balance them. It speaks to the need to expand beyond our entanglement with worldly form so we recognize the brilliance and the intentions of the soul. Hmmm! Of course, other teachings speak to this as well. In fact, I cannot get over how uncanny it is that the story of Rama is so much like the story of Buddha. Was this text and teaching a means to bring The Buddhists back to the Veda's?
