Seeing Dukkha

Not seeing dukkha is dukkha; not seeing suffering is suffering.

The Buddha

In other words, we suffer as long as we are not seeing that we are suffering... suffering expands without compassionate awareness of suffering.

So what exactly is this Dukkha or suffering?

Birth is dukkha, aging is dukkha, sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief and despair are dukkha; association with the unbeloved is dukkha; seperation from the beloved is dukkha; not getting what is wanted is dukkha.

Dukkha, loosely translated from the sanskrit word is suffering.  More precisely it refers to the experience of something not fitting right so things move smoothly.  The "kha" in ancient sanskrit refers to the way the axil fits within the center of a cart wheel. If it fits right and the cart can move smoothly, we have sukkha.  If it doesn't fit in quite right, and the cart ride becomes uneven, unbalanced, bumpy...we have dukkha.  Sukkha then is an experience of "ease" and a feeling of satisfactoriness. Dukkha, therefore, is an expereince of ease and a feeling of  "unsatifactoriness."

I see, experience and feel dukkha...right now...so I am moving beyond it?

All is well!
