Unsanctomonious Approach to Healing
There are times when Life is a kind and gentle healer.
Times when it will wait until we are anesthetized and still
before it makes its first incision.
Then it will, with its finely tuned instruments and sacred
precision,
gracefully cut open our eschar thick outer shells
to expose the magnificent potential hiding within.
Most times, however, Life is rather gruesome in its unsanctimonious
approach to healing.
Like an old nurse, made indifferent by years of witnessing patient
resistance,
It ignores the tensing up and fearful question, “Will it
hurt?”
With quick, determined hands it fiercely pulls the outer
skin away.
In one fluid motion, layers of who we thought we were, are painfully
stripped from us.
We gasp as we look down at the bloody, raw, and vulnerable mess
that is left behind.
And mind, in shock upon realizing it has been torn away
from the anchor that once held it down,
runs around in fitful circles, crying out, “No! No! This
shouldn’t be!”
These cries, heard much too often, just bounce off the nurse’s
unflinching face
As she calmly looks down at us to whisper, “It should be and
it is done!”
